About the tournament

The first Metropolitan Premier Cup (Bayhill Cup) was played for in 1989-still under apartheid.

Meanwhile it has become  the most recognised youth tournament on the african continent, attracting approximately 25.000 spectators over a period of 6 days.

There are 32 teams in the tournament.

Among them 10 junior teams from professional clubs of the South African Football Leagues, 4 teams from South African universities, 16 teams from townships of the Western Cape Region, one team from England and one from Germany.
